Wildlife of Beavers Bend State Park - Broken Bow, OK Travel

Beaver’s Bend State Park is located in the foothills of the Kiamichi Mountains and encompasses 3,500 acres of Ouachita National Forest. The area is a haven for hikers and nature lovers with beautiful wildlife to discover. Local nature photographer Randy Sander, captures the beauty of the area. One of the most scenic times to visit is during fall foliage that extends into November as the trees turn into brilliant colors of gold, red and orange.

Known for Broken Bow Lake with 180 miles of lush tree covered natural shoreline, this lake is perfect for boating, fishing, swimming and water sports.

Also known for Mountain Fork River which is a popular destination for fly fishing, kayaking, river float trips and horseback riding. There won't be a lack of discovering beautiful new spots throughout the National Park.

With an abundance of nature all around, animal lovers flock to Oklahoma for a one-of-a-kind wildlife experience. Fortunately for our guest, S’mores Sunrise sits at the top of Cordillera Mountain surrounded by the State Park on all sides. Bring your binoculars and enjoy spotting birds and wildlife from the upper deck with expansive views overlooking the forest, mountains and lake.

While Oklahoma is home to one of the largest herds of bison in the country, we don’t usually see these directly in the area, but you can expect to see groups of white-tailed deer, bobcats, racoons, armadillos, beavers, woodchucks, badgers and coyotes. Bring your camera and capture some of these majestic creatures.

What else might you expect to discover while hiking through Beavers Bend? Bears oh my……some bears do call the forest area their home, but not to worry, these are black bears that mostly keep to themselves.

Bird watchers can spy 350+ species of fowl, Bald eagles are often spotted soaring over the tree tops. Discover woodpeckers and many other species of unique birds.

On the lakes and rivers, you might spot quail, turkeys, waterfowl and maybe even some river otters.

The clean, clear, mountain fresh waters make fly fishing a favorite for many. You might expect to catch crappie, channel catfish, walleye, white bass, largemouth bass, small mouth bass, sunfish, and spotted bass. It is truly some of the best fishing in the United States nestled just a short drive from Dallas, a true outdoor paradise. If you're really lucky, you might just catch a glimpse of Bigfoot himself while out on your adventures.

Hochatown is a perfect vacation for your furry family members, much of the area can be enjoyed with dog-friendly hiking, patios and restaurants. S’mores Luxury Cabins is fully Pet Friendly with no restriction on breed or size.
