His musical influences would begin with the Irish tradition, moving into Appalachia and resting in the arms of the English singing tradition. He is well travelled having performed at many festivals, house concerts and venues across the country. He has made travels into Appalachia to record such people as Frank George, George Gibson, Art Rosenbaum and other bearers of traditional music.
