Fall in Love with Broken Bow / Hochatown

The fall season is in full swing and there is no shortage of fun things to do in the Broken Bow / Hochatown area. The Fall is a great time to visit, with a number of local celebrations and events taking place. The fall foliage is also at its peak, so be sure to take advantage of the scenic drives in the area. And don't forget about the amazing restaurants and businesses that call this area home. There's something for everyone in Broken Bow / Hochatown!

THE BATCHELOR FAMILY IN CONCERT

ACRYLIC PAINTING CLASS at The Museum of the Red River

Each Saturday in October (October 8 – 29) – 10am – 1pm

During October, the Museum of the Red River will be hosting an Acrylic Painting Class taught by Dr. Gleny Beach of Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Beginning October 8, each class will be held from 10am to 1pm on the following dates: October 8, October 15, October 22 and October 29. The class will include process and techniques in laying out and beginning a landscape on canvas board. Participants will expand knowledge of mixing acrylic colors and use of painting mediums to complete at least one painting. Sign up and cost is for all four classes and supplies. Class Fee $120 for non-member, $100 for Tier II Members. Participants must be at least 13 years of age and seats are limited to the first ten people to sign up by visiting the Museum or calling 580-286-3616. Persons interested must sign up and pay no later than September 28, 2022.

All proceeds will be donated to the facility to offset the costs for Christmas gifts, field trips and the end of the year graduation program. Jake Book is a ballad singer and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Kentucky. He grew up in Iowa where he learned banjo in the overhand style from his mother, a native of the bluegrass state. His musical influences would begin with the Irish tradition, moving into Appalachia and resting in the arms of the English singing tradition. He is well travelled having performed at many festivals, house concerts and venues across the country. He has made travels into Appalachia to record such people as Frank George, George Gibson, Art Rosenbaum and other bearers of traditional music. His live performance is a mixture of the English Ballad tradition, Appalachian fiddle tunes, Irish lilting and a fair amount of banjo.


THE JOY OF BEING IN NATURE Hiking Weekend

This will be our 3rd year together to head to Beaver's Bend for our now considered annual hiking weekend getaway! This little slice of heaven has plenty to do and is absolutely beautiful. You can hike, swim, fish, kayak, take a cold dip, chill at the local Beavers Bend Brewery... whatever your joyful heart desires. The plan is to hike and river side it up Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning before heading back to DFW. MORE INFORMATION

Day 1 will be Forest Heritage Tree Trail(easy), Lookout Mountain Trail(moderate) and river side relaxation if time...

Day 2 will be Skyline Trail (hard, 7-9 miles) and a cold dip with river side relaxation ...then off to Beavers Bend Brewery... for pizza and a cold one to end the day

Day 3 will be Beaver's Lodge Trail(easy) morning with waterfalls ....before heading to my favorite gift shop...then back to DFW.
